Preview: Elon Phoenix at Campbell Fightin’ Camels

LILLINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball play continues Friday night as the Campbell Fightin’ Camels host the Elon Phoenix at the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.

Campbell (8-7) enters with momentum from a 62-51 road victory over Drexel on Sunday. The Fightin’ Camels have won three of their last four games. Elon (6-8) snapped a two-game skid with an 84-75 home win against Hampton on the same day.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top individual performers. Elon is led by guard LaNae’ Corbett, who is coming off a career-high 28-point performance against Hampton. Over her last four games, Corbett is averaging 18.8 points. She will be the primary offensive focus for a Phoenix team averaging 66.4 points per game.

Campbell counters with forward Gianni Boone, a versatile defender and scorer. Boone posted 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks in the win at Drexel, showcasing her all-around impact. She anchors a Campbell defense that allows just 60.1 points per contest.

Elon’s victory over Hampton saw key contributions beyond Corbett, with Ashlee Shaw grabbing 12 rebounds and Kamryn Doty adding 16 points. Campbell’s win was a balanced effort, with Olivia Tucker scoring 18 points and Jasmine Nivar adding 15 points and five assists alongside Boone.

The Fightin’ Camels hold a slight edge in the standings and have been stronger defensively. Elon will need another high-scoring outing from Corbett and improved road execution; the Phoenix are 1-5 in away games this season.

Friday’s contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They are scheduled to meet again at Elon on Feb. 20.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST. Campbell’s next game is at home against William & Mary on Sunday. Elon travels to face UNC Wilmington on Jan. 16.
