North Carolina A&T at Northeastern
BOSTON (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum to open their conference schedules will meet Friday when North Carolina A&T visits Northeastern in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup at Matthews Arena.
The Aggies (5-8) and Huskies (4-8) enter with nearly identical records and both are looking to rebound from losses this past Sunday. North Carolina A&T fell 61-55 to Monmouth, while Northeastern was defeated 85-58 by the College of Charleston.
A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s standout performers. North Carolina A&T will lean on guard Paris Locke, who is coming off an 18-point, four-rebound effort in the loss to Monmouth. She has been a consistent offensive catalyst for the Aggies.
Northeastern will counter with forward Justice Tramble, a formidable presence in the paint. Tramble hauled in 12 rebounds against Charleston and is averaging a double-double over her last three contests, including a 16-rebound performance in a win over Boston College.
Both teams have shown flashes of potential against non-conference foes but have struggled for consistency. The Aggies’ offense, which exploded for 99 points in a late December win over Newberry, has been held under 60 points in three of its last four games. Northeastern’s defense, which held Massachusetts-Lowell to 46 points in a November win, has allowed an average of 78 points in its last three outings.
Friday’s contest opens a critical stretch for both programs as they navigate their conference slate. The Huskies will look to protect their home court, where they are 3-3 this season, while the Aggies aim to improve a 1-5 record in true road games.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern. Following the game, Northeastern will host Monmouth on Sunday, while North Carolina A&T travels to face Stony Brook.
