Santa Clara at Hawaii
HONOLULU (Interstat) — The Santa Clara Broncos look to rebound from their first loss in nearly two weeks when they visit the Hawaii Warriors in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup Sunday.
Santa Clara (6-3) saw its three-game winning streak snapped in a 63-51 loss at Vermont on Saturday. Maia Jones led the Broncos with 15 points in the defeat, while Ashley Hawkins added 12 points and four assists. Prior to the loss, the Broncos had averaged 79 points per game during their streak, including an 84-70 win over Lindenwood on Friday.
Hawaii (4-1) is also coming off a loss to Vermont, falling 73-67 at home on Friday. The Warriors’ undefeated start to the season ended despite 16 points from Keiara Curtis and 15 points from Bailey Flavell. Hawaii’s defense had been a hallmark of its early success, holding three of its first four opponents under 55 points.
The game at the Stan Sheriff Center pits Santa Clara’s potent offense against a stingy Hawaii defense. The Broncos have scored 72 or more points in five of their nine games, while the Warriors have yet to allow an opponent to score 70 this season.
This is the final game of a challenging road trip for Santa Clara, while Hawaii concludes a brief two-game homestand.
