Texas State Bobcats Dominate Prairie View Lady Panthers in Lopsided Victory

SAN MARCOS, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas State Bobcats delivered a commanding performance Sunday afternoon, overwhelming the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers 93-52 in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Strahan Coliseum.

Fueled by a dominant first half where they built a 53-26 lead, the Bobcats never trailed and improved their season record to 2-5. The loss dropped Prairie View to an identical 2-5 mark.

Texas State’s offense was firing on all cylinders from the opening tip, erupting for 26 points in the first quarter and adding 27 more in the second. The Bobcats’ defense was equally stifling, holding the Lady Panthers to just 13 points in each of the first two periods. The home team’s relentless pace and efficient scoring created a deficit from which Prairie View could not recover.

Saniya Burks, a 5-foot-8 guard from Mexia, Texas, led all scorers with a game-high 28 points. She was instrumental in the Bobcats’ offensive explosion, also contributing three assists in just 24 minutes of action.

Despite the lopsided score, Prairie View’s CJ Wilson turned in a strong individual effort. The 5-9 guard from Atlanta, Georgia, shouldered the offensive load for the Lady Panthers, scoring 24 points over 34 minutes on the court.

Texas State’s offensive attack was multifaceted. Kyra Anderson, a 6-1 forward from Huntington, Texas, provided a potent inside presence with 17 points and two blocks. The Bobcats also received significant contributions from their backcourt, as Mia Galbraith from Sunshine Coast, Australia, chipped in 10 points and four assists, and Amyria Walker of Burleson, Texas, added 10 points and two assists off the bench.

The game’s momentum was established early. Texas State opened with a 9-2 run, capped by a layup from Kyra Anderson. While Prairie View’s Alana Shields briefly interrupted the run with a 3-pointer, the Bobcats answered with another surge, extending their lead to 20-7. A 3-pointer from Saniya Burks with just over two minutes left in the first quarter pushed the advantage to 24-9, and Texas State closed the period with a 26-13 lead.

The second quarter saw more of the same, with Texas State continuing to apply pressure. Burks was particularly effective, hitting multiple 3-pointers as the Bobcats’ lead ballooned to 53-26 by halftime.

Any hope of a Prairie View comeback was extinguished in the third quarter as Texas State maintained its offensive output, outscoring the Lady Panthers 24-15 to take a 77-41 lead into the final period. The Bobcats cruised through the fourth quarter to secure the 41-point victory.

For Prairie View, Mercy Wamet, a 6-5 player from Dallas, provided a presence inside with six points and two assists, while Jacque Giron of Houston also scored six points.

The announced attendance at Strahan Coliseum was 652. Both teams will look to build on their records in their upcoming contests. Texas State travels to face Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Dec. 6. Prairie View faces a tough road test against the University of Texas on Sunday, Dec. 7.
