Sacred Heart at Northeastern

BOSTON (Interstat) — The Northeastern Huskies used a dominant fourth-quarter performance to secure a 68-60 victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a non-conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Matthews Arena.

In a contest defined by defense and free throws, the Huskies outscored the Pioneers 24-19 in the final period to pull away and improve their season record to 2-4. Sacred Heart fell to 1-4.

Camryn Collins led all scorers with 19 points for Northeastern, providing a crucial offensive spark. She was complemented by Yirsy Quéliz, who added 15 points and five rebounds, and Alyssa Staten, who nearly recorded a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

The game was a back-and-forth affair through the first three quarters. Northeastern established an early lead, ending the first quarter up 17-13. Sacred Heart responded with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Huskies 15-10 to take a narrow 28-27 lead into halftime. The third quarter saw both teams trade baskets, with Northeastern slightly edging the Pioneers 17-16 to tie the game at 44-44 heading into the final frame.

Sacred Heart was led by Jordanna Schrecker, who came off the bench to score 11 points, all in the first half. Sophie Nascimento and Emma Kirby each added 10 points for the Pioneers, while Amelia Wood anchored the defense with three blocks.

The difference in the game came down to efficiency and opportunities. While both teams struggled from the field—Sacred Heart shot 35.3 percent and Northeastern 38.6 percent—the Huskies capitalized at the free-throw line. Northeastern attempted 42 free throws, making 30, compared to Sacred Heart’s 28 attempts, of which they made 18.

Northeastern also forced 15 Sacred Heart turnovers, converting them into 14 points, and held a slight edge in assists and steals.

The game was played before an announced crowd of 321 at Matthews Arena. Sacred Heart will look to rebound when they host Mercy on Tuesday. Northeastern travels to face Massachusetts-Lowell on the same night.
