Georgia Women Dominate North Florida in Lopsided Victory
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — The Georgia Bulldogs delivered a commanding performance Thursday night, overwhelming the North Florida Ospreys from the opening tip and cruising to a decisive victory at Stegeman Coliseum.
The game was effectively decided in the first quarter, as Georgia unleashed a blistering 29-point period while holding North Florida to just 15 points. The Bulldogs’ defensive pressure was immediate and unrelenting, forcing a series of early turnovers that fueled their explosive start. The tone was set in the opening minute when Trinity Turner stole the ball and followed with an assist on a Rylie Theuerkauf layup. Just seconds later, Dani Carnegie drained a 3-pointer, capping a rapid 7-0 run that forced North Florida to burn an early timeout.
Georgia’s offensive efficiency was starkly contrasted by North Florida’s struggles. The Ospreys managed only four points in the entire second quarter, a drought that allowed the Bulldogs to build an insurmountable 44-19 lead by halftime. The Bulldogs’ dominance was rooted in a swarming defense that generated 17 steals and capitalized on 24 North Florida turnovers, converting them into 33 points.
The statistical disparity painted a clear picture of the lopsided contest. Georgia shot 49 percent from the floor, connecting on 33 of 67 attempts, while North Florida was held to 35 percent shooting, making just 17 of 48 shots. The Bulldogs also owned the paint, outscoring the Ospreys 42 to 18, and demonstrated superior ball movement with 17 assists compared to North Florida’s six.
Individually, Dani Carnegie led all scorers with a standout performance, pouring in 22 points in just 25 minutes on the court. She was instrumental in the first-quarter onslaught and finished the night as the game’s most potent offensive force. Trinity Turner orchestrated the offense with precision, contributing 12 points and a game-high seven assists, while also tallying multiple steals. Mia Woolfolk provided a strong interior presence, adding 13 points and anchoring the defensive effort.
For North Florida, which fell to 1-4 with the loss, the bright spots were few. Elle Blatchford led the Ospreys with 10 points, but the team’s offensive rating of 65.0 on 71 possessions underscored the difficulty they faced against Georgia’s defensive scheme. The Ospreys’ offense never found a consistent rhythm, with their highest-scoring quarter being the fourth, long after the outcome had been determined.
With the victory, Georgia remained perfect on the season, improving to 6-0. The Bulldogs have now won each of their games by at least 25 points, establishing themselves as a formidable force in the early season. They will look to continue their winning ways in a high-profile in-state rivalry game against Georgia Tech on Sunday.
North Florida, meanwhile, will seek to regroup and find its footing after a challenging start to the season. The Ospreys’ next opportunity comes on November 28 when they host Bethune-Cookman.
The announced attendance at Stegeman Coliseum was 1,544.
