Seton Hall Routs Pacific in Women’s Basketball Matchup

STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Seton Hall Pirates remained undefeated Sunday, using a dominant first-quarter performance to cruise to a 79-57 victory over the Pacific Tigers in a non-conference women’s basketball game at the A.C. Spanos Center.

Seton Hall improved to 3-0 on the young season, while Pacific fell to 1-3.

The game was effectively decided in the opening period, as the visiting Pirates unleashed a 28-point quarter, overwhelming the Tigers to build a 28-11 lead. Seton Hall’s aggressive defense set the tone, forcing a series of early Pacific turnovers that fueled their transition offense. The Pirates capitalized on these mistakes throughout the contest, scoring 34 points off turnovers compared to just nine for the Tigers.

Seton Hall’s offensive execution was sharp from the start, and they maintained a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game. They extended their advantage to 51-28 by halftime after a 23-point second quarter. Pacific found a brief rhythm in the second, scoring 17 points, but could not slow the Pirates’ attack enough to mount a serious challenge.

The Pirates’ offense cooled somewhat after the break, scoring 16 points in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth, but their defense ensured the Tigers never threatened a comeback. Pacific managed only 10 points in the third before a 19-point fourth quarter against Seton Hall’s reserves made the final score more respectable.

Seton Hall’s offensive effort was balanced and efficient. The Pirates dominated inside, outscoring Pacific 36-16 in the paint. Mariana Valenzuela, a 6-foot-2 forward from Mazatlan, Mexico, led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds in just 25 minutes of action. Guard Jada Eads of Orlando, Florida, added 14 points and five assists, orchestrating the offense effectively.

They were supported by Jordana Codio, who contributed 13 points and six rebounds, and Savannah Catalon of Mansfield, Texas, who chipped in 10 points.

For Pacific, Liv Yergensen from El Dorado Hills, California, led the team with 13 points and four assists. Sophia Mindermann of Folsom, California, scored 12 points, while Winner Bartholomew from Abuja, Nigeria, added eight points and four rebounds. Sydney Ward of Houston, Texas, provided a defensive spark off the bench with six rebounds and three blocked shots in just 10 minutes of play.

The game was played in front of an announced crowd of 516. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Seton Hall entered the contest with an 83.40 percent probability to win.

Seton Hall will look to continue its perfect start when it returns home to face Fordham on Thursday. Pacific will remain at home to host Cal State Fullerton next Sunday.
