Lipscomb at Mississippi Valley State

AVALON, Miss. (Interstat) — The Lipscomb Bisons and Mississippi Valley State Devilettes, two teams seeking consistency, will meet in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at the LeFlore County Civic Center.

Lipscomb (2-2) enters the contest looking to build on a dominant 74-49 victory over Johnson on Thursday. Molly Heard led the way with 17 points in just 18 minutes of play, while Taylor Bowen pulled down nine rebounds. The Bisons’ season has been a mix of extremes, featuring a 105-point offensive outburst against Sewanee and a 46-point showing in a loss to Indiana.

They will face a Mississippi Valley State team (0-3) that is still searching for its first win under challenging circumstances. The Devilettes are coming off a 110-50 road loss to Auburn, part of a brutal opening stretch where their three losses have come by an average of 60 points. Sydnei Marshall has been a bright spot, scoring 15 points in the loss to the Tigers.

The game offers a chance for Lipscomb to get above .500 before a local rivalry game at Belmont on Wednesday. For Mississippi Valley State, it represents one of its final opportunities to find a win before embarking on another difficult road trip.
