Texas A&M at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. (Interstat) — In a game defined by a dominant second quarter and a resilient final stand, the Texas A&M women’s basketball team remained undefeated Sunday by outlasting Kansas State 77-72 at Bramlage Coliseum.

The Aggies improved to 3-0, while the Wildcats fell to 3-2 in a non-conference matchup that defied pregame projections, which heavily favored the home team.

Texas A&M seized control of the game with a commanding second-quarter performance. After leading 15-13 through the first period, the Aggies erupted for 26 points in the second quarter while holding Kansas State to just 15, building a 41-28 halftime advantage. The Aggies’ offensive efficiency was the story of the first half, as they consistently found quality shots against the Wildcats’ defense.

However, the game was far from over. Kansas State mounted a furious comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Texas A&M 31-21. The Wildcats’ surge, led by a more aggressive offensive approach, whittled the Aggies’ lead down to just three points heading into the final period.

The fourth quarter became a tense, back-and-forth affair. Texas A&M managed to stabilize and match Kansas State point-for-point, with both teams scoring 13 in the final frame. The Aggies made critical defensive stops and hit key free throws in the closing minutes to secure the five-point victory.

Guard Ny’Ceara Pryor was the catalyst for Texas A&M, leading all scorers with 24 points. The 5-foot-3 guard from Baltimore, Maryland, also dished out a game-high six assists and grabbed five rebounds in 30 minutes of action, directing the Aggie offense throughout the contest.

Texas A&M received significant contributions from its international players. Forward Fatmata Janneh, from London, England, provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and six rebounds in just 15 minutes. Guard Lemyah Hylton of Mississauga, Canada, added 10 points.

For Kansas State, the scoring load was shared among several players. Tess Heal of Melbourne, Australia, led the Wildcats with 15 points. Jordan Speiser of Warrenton, Missouri, and Gina Garcia of Barcelona, Spain, each contributed 12 points. Garcia also tallied three assists and a block in a team-high 37 minutes.

Statistically, the game was remarkably even. Both teams finished with 69 possessions and shot nearly identical percentages from the field and three-point range. The difference came down to ball security and free-throw shooting. Texas A&M committed only nine turnovers compared to 13 for Kansas State, leading to a 15-8 advantage in points off turnovers. The Aggies also made 13 of their 18 free throw attempts, while the Wildcats converted 10 of 15.

The game was played in front of a crowd of 3,676 at Bramlage Coliseum. Texas A&M will look to continue its winning streak on Saturday, Nov. 22, against VCU in Laie, Hawaii. Kansas State will aim to rebound quickly, hosting Troy on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
