Kent State at West Virginia
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Interstat) — The West Virginia women’s basketball team looks to build on a dominant opening win when it hosts Kent State on Friday night at the WVU Coliseum.
The Mountaineers (1-0) cruised to an 83-47 victory over Fort Wayne on Monday. Jordan Harrison led the way with 15 points, while Sydney Shaw added 11 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Thomas also chipped in 12 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Kent State (0-1) is seeking its first win after falling 80-48 at James Madison in its season opener. Riley Rismiller recorded a double-double in the loss with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Mya Babbitt added seven points, seven rebounds and two assists.
The Golden Flashes will need a stronger defensive effort after allowing James Madison to shoot 50% from the field. They face a West Virginia squad that forced 28 turnovers in its opener.
This non-conference matchup is the first of a two-game homestand for the Mountaineers before a marquee neutral-site game against Duke. Kent State continues a challenging early road stretch before its home opener against Walsh on Monday.
