CINCINNATI (Interstat) — Mariyah Noel recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Xavier women’s basketball team edged Fort Wayne 62-61 on Friday night at Cintas Center. The Musketeers improved to 2-0, while the Mastodons fell to 0-2.

Xavier used a 23-point second quarter to build a lead and then held off a late Fort Wayne rally. Alana Nelson led all scorers with 23 points for the Mastodons, and Lili Krasovec added 12 points and seven assists. The game was a statistical upset, as national metrics heavily favored Fort Wayne to win. An announced crowd of 692 watched the narrow non-conference victory.
