CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Xavier women’s basketball team looks to build on its season-opening victory when it hosts Fort Wayne on Friday night at Cintas Center.

The Musketeers (1-0) edged New Haven 53-46 on Tuesday, led by a balanced effort. Mariyah Noel scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Savannah White filled the stat sheet with 11 points, three rebounds, five assists and five blocks.

Fort Wayne (0-1) is seeking its first win after falling 83-47 at West Virginia on Monday. Rylee Bess came off the bench to lead the Mastodons with nine points in that contest.

The matchup presents a contrast in early-season momentum. Xavier’s defense was stifling in its opener, holding New Haven to 46 points. The Mastodons, meanwhile, will aim for a more efficient offensive performance after their opening-night loss.

This is the first of a two-game homestand for the Musketeers, who host Dayton next Tuesday. Following this contest, Fort Wayne returns home for a four-game stretch, beginning with a matchup against Purdue on Nov. 12.
