Tarleton State at Texas-Arlington
ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt late-season slides will meet Thursday when the Tarleton State Texans visit the Texas-Arlington Mavericks in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game at College Park Center.
Both teams enter the regular-season finale seeking momentum before conference tournaments begin. Tarleton State (12-16) has lost five straight, including a 76-67 home defeat to California Baptist on Saturday. Texas-Arlington (10-18) has dropped four of its last five, falling 79-72 to the same California Baptist team last Thursday.
The Texans will lean on guard Jakoriah Long, who has been a consistent bright spot during the losing streak. She is averaging 17.6 points over her last five games, including a 20-point, five-rebound effort in a loss at Utah Tech on Feb. 21. Long scored 17 in the most recent loss to Cal Baptist.
For the Mavericks, guard Nya Threatt has been a key contributor. She logged 10 points and two assists against Cal Baptist and scored 13 points in a double-overtime win over Utah Tech on Feb. 5. Forward Jadyn Atchison, who had a team-high 19 points in the last outing, provides an inside complement.
History favors the visiting Texans in this intrastate matchup. Tarleton State has won the last two meetings, including a 51-37 victory at home on Jan. 21. In that game, the Texans held UTA to a season-low point total.
Both teams have struggled offensively at times this season. Tarleton State has been held under 70 points in six consecutive games, while UTA has surpassed 70 points only twice in its last ten contests. The matchup may hinge on which team can find a more consistent scoring rhythm.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CST tipoff Thursday. UTA will conclude its regular season at home against Abilene Christian on Saturday.
