Mount Saint Mary`s at Sacred Heart
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in a tightly packed conference race will meet Saturday when the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers visit the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup.
Both teams enter the William Pitt Center with identical 11-12 overall records. The game is a key mid-February contest as each looks to climb above .500.
Mount St. Mary’s arrives riding high after a dramatic 63-62 road victory at Iona on Thursday. The Mountaineers were led by a standout performance from guard Alana Powell, who scored 22 points in 34 minutes. Powell has been a key offensive catalyst, averaging 13.1 points over her last seven games, including a 34-point outing in the win at Iona. She will be the focal point for the Mountaineers’ attack.
Sacred Heart looks to rebound from a tough 69-47 loss at Merrimack on Thursday. The Pioneers’ offense struggled, with guard Sierra Johnson held to five points. Johnson, the team’s floor general, will aim to regain her facilitating form; she averaged 4.3 assists in the three games prior to the Merrimack loss. Support from Sophie Nascimento (12 points vs. Merrimack) and Emma Kirby will be crucial.
The matchup features contrasting recent trajectories. Mount St. Mary’s has won two of its last three, while Sacred Heart has dropped two straight after a three-game winning streak. Defense may prove decisive. In its recent win, Mount St. Mary’s held Iona to 62 points, but the Mountaineers have allowed 73 or more in two of their last four losses. Sacred Heart’s offense must solve its recent scoring woes after being held under 50 points in two of its last three outings.
This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the teams this season. They will meet again at Mount St. Mary’s on Feb. 26.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at the William Pitt Center.
