TCU Lady Frogs Dominate in Lopsided Victory Over Tarleton State
FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) — In a display of overwhelming defensive pressure and offensive firepower, the undefeated Texas Christian Lady Frogs delivered a commanding performance, routing the visiting Tarleton State Texans 80-32 in a non-conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at Dickies Arena.
The Lady Frogs, who improved to 5-0, never trailed and methodically dismantled the Texans from the opening tip, holding Tarleton State to a historically poor shooting night. The Texans, who fell to 2-4, managed just nine field goals on 58 attempts, a frigid 15.5 percent from the floor. Their offensive struggles were encapsulated by an offensive rating of 41.6, a figure that underscored their inability to generate any consistent scoring against TCU’s swarming defense.
Texas Christian set the tone early, closing the first quarter with a 16-5 lead. The Texans’ offensive woes only deepened as the game progressed. While they mustered 13 points in the second quarter, the Lady Frogs continued to pull away, taking a 34-18 advantage into halftime.
Any lingering doubt was extinguished in a dominant third-quarter performance from TCU. The Lady Frogs erupted for 26 points while their defense clamped down even further, limiting Tarleton State to a mere eight points. The period saw the lead balloon to 60-26, turning the final quarter into a formality. TCU outscored the Texans 20-6 in the fourth to seal the 48-point victory.
The statistical disparity was stark. Beyond the shooting percentages, TCU forced 21 Tarleton State turnovers, converting them into 22 points. The Lady Frogs also dominated inside, outscoring the Texans 34-10 in the paint and blocking nine shots. TCU’s offense was efficient, shooting 44.4 percent from the field and posting an offensive rating of 106.0.
Olivia Miles led all scorers for Texas Christian, orchestrating the offense with 18 points and seven assists. Marta Suárez was a force on both ends, contributing 20 points and four assists, while Taylor Bigby provided a significant spark with 18 points of her own. Donovyn Hunter rounded out the double-figure scorers for TCU with 10 points. The Lady Frogs’ defensive effort was a collective one, with Kennedy Basham recording three blocks and Maddie Scherr adding four.
For Tarleton State, no player reached double figures in scoring. Allie Myers came off the bench to lead the team with four points in just 10 minutes of action. The Texans’ starting backcourt of Gia Adams and Luka Malinka combined for just seven points on 1-of-12 shooting from the field.
The game was part of a challenging early-season stretch for Tarleton State, which has now lost three of its last four games. The Texans will look to regroup on the road against Texas State on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Texas Christian, meanwhile, continues its homestand with growing momentum, having won each of its first five games by at least 36 points. The Lady Frogs will host Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Sunday, Nov. 23, as they aim to maintain their perfect record.
