Iowa State at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa (Interstat) — The Iowa State women’s basketball team remained undefeated Thursday night, using a dominant first half to cruise past the Drake Bulldogs 87 to 60 at a sold-out Knapp Center.

The 18th-ranked Cyclones, playing their first road game of the season, seized control immediately with a blistering 25-point first quarter while holding the Bulldogs to just five points. The onslaught continued in the second period as Iowa State built a commanding 52 to 18 halftime lead. The Cyclones’ offensive efficiency was stark, posting an offensive rating of 112.5 points per 100 possessions compared to Drake’s 80.1.

Drake showed life after the break, outscoring Iowa State 29 to 16 in a third-quarter surge, but the first-half deficit proved far too large to overcome. The Bulldogs could not sustain the momentum in the final period.

Iowa State’s offense was fueled by balanced scoring and sharp three-point shooting. The Cyclones connected on 11 of 27 attempts from beyond the arc, while Drake struggled immensely from deep, making just 3 of 24. The Cyclones also capitalized on Drake’s 19 turnovers, converting them into 23 points.

Audi Crooks, a 6-foot-3 sophomore from Algona, Iowa, led all scorers with 22 points for Iowa State. She was one of five Cyclones to finish in double figures. Addy Brown filled the stat sheet with 12 points, seven assists and two blocks. Arianna Jackson, a Des Moines native, scored 12 points, all from three-pointers in the first quarter. Jada Williams and Reagan Wilson each added 11 points.

Drake was led by Anna Becker, who scored 22 points. Maggie Taylor contributed 14 points for the Bulldogs, who were hampered by their cold shooting from the floor, finishing 19 of 61.

The victory improves Iowa State’s record to 6-0 on the season. Drake falls to 1-3. An announced crowd of 4,026 attended the in-state matchup.

Iowa State returns home to face Mercyhurst on Sunday. Drake travels to Nashville for a game against Arkansas next Tuesday.
