Iowa State Dominates Norfolk State in Lopsided Women’s Basketball Victory
AMES, Iowa (Interstat) — In a commanding display of offensive firepower and defensive dominance, the Iowa State Cyclones remained undefeated Sunday with a resounding 98-52 victory over the Norfolk State Spartans in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Hilton Coliseum.
A crowd of 9,145 watched as the Cyclones improved to 5-0 on the young season, while the Spartans fell to 2-3.
The outcome was never in doubt, as Iowa State erupted for 26 points in the opening quarter and never looked back, building a 53-25 lead by halftime. The Cyclones’ offensive machine was relentless, adding 24 points in the third and 21 in the fourth to cruise to the 46-point win.
Iowa State’s victory was a showcase of individual brilliance, particularly from its post players. Center Audi Crooks, a 6-foot-3 sophomore from Algona, Iowa, was a force on both ends of the floor. In just 25 minutes, she recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while also swatting away five Spartan shots and dishing out four assists.
The Cyclones also saw a historic performance from freshman forward Addy Brown. The 6-foot-2 standout from Derby, Kansas, delivered a rare triple-double, stuffing the stat sheet with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Her all-court vision and playmaking were instrumental in orchestrating the Iowa State offense.
Further highlighting the Cyclones’ depth and interior strength was forward Alisa Williams. The 6-foot-2 sophomore from Denton, Texas, came off the bench to secure a double-double of her own, grabbing 12 rebounds and scoring 10 points in just 14 minutes of action.
The Iowa State attack was multifaceted. Forward Sydney Harris provided a significant scoring punch with 15 points, while guards Mackenzie Hare and Jada Williams contributed 14 and eight points, respectively. Williams also directed the offense with eight assists. Off the bench, guard Reagan Wilson efficiently scored all eight of her points in the fourth quarter.
For Norfolk State, guard Jasha Clinton was a bright spot amidst the struggle. The Virginia Beach native logged a team-high 17 points and five assists in a game-high 39 minutes. Anjanae Richardson added 13 points for the Spartans, and forward Carmen Kweti chipped in seven points and five rebounds.
The statistical disparity told the story of the game. Iowa State dominated inside, outscoring Norfolk State 32-14 in the paint. The Cyclones also capitalized more effectively on mistakes, scoring 18 points off turnovers compared to the Spartans’ 12.
The game marked another dominant performance in a perfect start for Iowa State, which has now won each of its first five games by at least 27 points. Norfolk State, coming off a 51-point loss to Duke earlier in the week, continues a challenging early-season schedule.
Iowa State will look to extend its winning streak when it travels to face in-state rival Drake on Thursday. Norfolk State continues its road trip with a game at Penn on Tuesday.
