Southeastern Louisiana at Nicholls State
THIBODAUX, La. (Interstat) — A Southland Conference women’s basketball rematch arrives Saturday as the Nicholls State Colonels host the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at Stopher Gym.
The Colonels (12-15) look to complete a regular-season sweep after edging the Lions 69-66 in Hammond on Jan. 24. Nicholls State seeks to rebound from a 69-59 home loss to McNeese State on Thursday. Sh’Diamond McKnight led the Colonels with 19 points in that defeat, providing a bright spot for a team that has lost three of its last four.
Southeastern Louisiana (5-22) enters with momentum from a 74-64 road victory at New Orleans on Thursday, snapping a four-game skid. The Lions’ offense, which has struggled consistently, found a rhythm behind Aliyah Collins’ 17 points and four assists and Lihi Azouri’s game-high 19 points.
Collins remains the focal point for the Lions. The guard has been a high-volume scorer, averaging 17.4 points over her last eight games, including a 30-point performance against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 19. Containing her will be a primary task for the Colonels’ defense.
Despite their overall record, the Lions have shown they can challenge Nicholls State, taking the January meeting down to the wire. The Colonels, however, have been stronger at home this season, boasting a 7-5 record in Thibodaux compared to the Lions’ 2-11 road mark.
Nicholls State holds a clear advantage in the standings, sitting in the middle of the conference pack, while Southeastern Louisiana languishes near the bottom. A win would bolster the Colonels’ seeding for the upcoming Southland Conference tournament, while the Lions aim to build on their recent upset and play spoiler.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026.
