Louisiana Tech at New Mexico State

Preview: Conference USA Women’s Basketball Showdown Set for Pan American Center

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Interstat) — A surging Louisiana Tech squad aims to extend its winning streak against a New Mexico State team seeking consistency when the Lady Techsters visit the Aggies in a Conference USA women’s basketball matchup Saturday.

The game tips off at 2 p.m. MST at the Pan American Center.

Louisiana Tech (16-5, 8-1 CUSA) enters on a seven-game conference winning streak, most recently dominating UTEP 87-48 on Thursday. The Lady Techsters have won nine of their last ten, showcasing a balanced attack and stifling defense, holding opponents to an average of 52.1 points during the current streak.

A key catalyst is guard Jianna Morris, who scored 21 points in 29 minutes against UTEP. Over the last eight games, Morris has averaged 12.1 points and has been a steadying presence, logging over 30 minutes in five of those contests.

New Mexico State (8-14, 3-6) snapped a three-game skid with a 65-57 home victory over Sam Houston on Thursday. The Aggies have struggled for rhythm but have shown flashes, particularly from forward Imani Warren. Warren recorded a 21-point, 9-rebound effort in a loss to UTEP on Jan. 31 and is coming off an 8-point, 6-assist, 3-block performance.

The Aggies will need a complete effort to counter Louisiana Tech’s momentum. In Thursday’s win, Lucia Yenes led New Mexico State with 17 points.

This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the teams this season. They are slated to meet again in Ruston, Louisiana, on March 5.

Louisiana Tech’s next action is at home against Florida International on Feb. 12. New Mexico State begins a two-game road trip at Delaware on Feb. 12.
