Delaware at Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — A pair of teams riding opposite momentum waves will meet Saturday when the Delaware Blue Hens visit the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in a Conference USA women’s basketball clash.

Both teams enter Pete Mathews Coliseum with identical 11-11 overall records, but their recent paths have diverged. Delaware (11-11) has won four of its last five games, including a 65-60 overtime victory at Kennesaw State on Thursday. Jacksonville State (11-11), meanwhile, looks to snap a three-game skid after falling 60-55 to Liberty on its home floor Thursday.

The matchup hinges on the play of each squad’s standout guard. Delaware’s Safi Kolliegbo is averaging 16.1 points per game in her last seven contests, coming off an 18-point, 38-minute effort in the overtime win. Her scoring surge has been pivotal for the Blue Hens’ recent success.

Jacksonville State will counter with Eden Sample, who has been a defensive presence with multiple blocks in three of her last five games. Her offensive production has fluctuated, however, scoring 13 points against Sam Houston on Jan. 29 but managing just one point at Missouri State on Jan. 10.

In Thursday’s wins, Delaware’s Ande’a Cherisier added 16 points alongside Kolliegbo’s 18. Jacksonville State’s Adriana Jones led her team with 10 points in the loss to Liberty.

The Gamecocks will aim to leverage their home-court advantage, where they are 3-2 in conference play this season. Delaware has found a rhythm in close games, with three of its last five wins decided by seven points or fewer.

Following this contest, Delaware hosts New Mexico State on Feb. 12. Jacksonville State begins a two-game road trip at Middle Tennessee on the same date.

Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
