North Alabama at Queens (N.C.)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The North Alabama Lions look to continue their climb in the ASUN standings when they visit the Queens (N.C.) Royals in a women’s basketball rematch Saturday at Levine Center.

North Alabama (11-10) enters on a two-game winning streak following a 55-50 victory over Austin Peay on Wednesday. The Lions have won five of their last seven conference games. Queens (8-14) seeks to halt a three-game skid after a 64-39 loss to Central Arkansas on Wednesday.

The Lions won the first meeting this season, 63-60, in Florence on Jan. 22. North Alabama guard Alexsandra Alvarado, who scored eight points in that game, has surged offensively since. She is averaging 18.4 points over her last seven contests, including a 37-point outburst at Jacksonville on Jan. 17. She leads the Lions coming off an 18-point, six-assist performance against Austin Peay.

Queens will counter with guard Breah Franks, who scored 12 points in the loss to Central Arkansas, marking her second double-figure scoring game in the last month. She had six points in 11 minutes in the earlier loss to North Alabama.

North Alabama’s recent success has been built on defense, holding opponents to 55 points or fewer in three of its last four wins. Queens has struggled offensively, failing to reach 60 points in four of its last five losses.

The Lions currently sit in the middle of the ASUN pack, while the Royals are near the bottom. A win for North Alabama would solidify its position and complete a regular-season sweep. Queens aims to defend its home court and avenge the narrow January defeat.

Following this game, North Alabama travels to face Central Arkansas on Monday. Queens has a week off before visiting Austin Peay next Thursday.
