Cornell at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. (Interstat) — The surging Princeton Tigers, ranked among the nation’s elite, will look to rebound from a rare conference loss when they host the Cornell Big Red in an Ivy League women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Jadwin Gymnasium.

Princeton (17-2, 4-1 Ivy) saw its 10-game winning streak snapped in a 73-67 home loss to Columbia on Friday night. The Tigers, whose only other defeat this season came against then-Stanford in nonconference play, remain the class of the league. They are led by forward Fadima Tall, who has averaged 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds over her last four games, providing consistent interior presence.

Cornell (8-11, 3-3) arrives with momentum after a 62-58 road victory over Penn on Friday. The Big Red have shown resilience, alternating wins and losses over their past six games. Guard Emily Pape has been instrumental, coming off a 20-point, three-assist performance in the win at Penn. Over her last eight games, Pape has averaged 12.4 points, including a 19-point effort in a win at Columbia earlier this month.

The matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Princeton’s potent offense, which has scored 80 or more points five times this season, will test a Cornell defense that has struggled at times, allowing an average of 66.2 points per game. The Tigers won both meetings last season by an average of 32 points.

For Cornell to pull an upset, they will need another high-output night from Pape and fellow guard Rachel Kaus, who scored 18 points against Penn. Containing Tall and Princeton’s balanced attack, while weathering the Tigers’ defensive pressure, will be the primary challenge.

Saturday’s contest is the first of a regular-season series split, with the Tigers scheduled to visit Ithaca, New York, on Feb. 14. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. EST.
