Alabama at Georgia
Preview of Alabama at Georgia Women’s Basketball
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — A top-10 showdown with major Southeastern Conference implications is set for Thursday when the Alabama Crimson Tide visits the Georgia Bulldogs at Stegeman Coliseum.
Both teams enter with identical 18-3 overall records, setting the stage for a pivotal midseason clash. The matchup features two of the league’s most dynamic scorers in Alabama guard Jessica Timmons and Georgia guard Dani Carnegie.
Timmons is coming off a career-high 28 points in Alabama’s 85-78 win over Mississippi State on Sunday. She has averaged 21.1 points over her last seven games, providing the offensive engine for the Crimson Tide. Alabama has won four of its last five, with the lone loss in that span a 70-59 defeat to Tennessee on Jan. 18.
Georgia rides a three-game winning streak, most recently a 72-67 road victory at Kentucky on Jan. 24. Carnegie fueled that win with 19 points and eight assists. She has been a force all season, posting a 31-point effort at Arkansas and a 32-point, 11-rebound performance against Mississippi earlier this month. The Bulldogs’ offense averages over 76 points per game at home.
Defense will be tested. Alabama allows just 58.9 points per game, while Georgia’s defense concedes 62.7. The battle in the paint will be crucial, with Georgia’s Mia Woolfolk (11 points, 13 rebounds vs. Kentucky) facing an Alabama frontcourt led by Diana Collins.
The Crimson Tide have struggled away from home in SEC play, with conference losses at Auburn and South Carolina. Georgia’s conference losses came against top-tier opponents South Carolina and LSU.
This contest is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. The winner will seize sole possession of second place in the conference standings and a valuable resume-building victory for March.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
