Montana at Weber State

MISSOULA, Mont. (Interstat) — Two Big Sky Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Montana Lady Griz visit the Weber State Wildcats at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah.

Montana (4-13, 1-3 Big Sky) enters having snapped a five-game losing streak with a 76-72 home victory over Northern Arizona on Monday. The Lady Griz were led by a 20-point performance from junior guard Jocelyn Land, who has been a consistent offensive bright spot. Land is averaging 12.7 points per game over her last six contests.

Weber State (6-11, 0-4) is mired in a six-game skid, most recently a 95-76 road loss to Idaho on Saturday. The Wildcats have struggled to find consistent scoring during their conference slate. Junior forward Fui Niumeitolu, averaging 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, will be a key interior presence for a Weber State team looking to secure its first Big Sky win.

The matchup features two of the conference’s lower-scoring offenses. Montana averages 62.9 points per game, while Weber State scores 64.2 per contest. The Wildcats will aim to leverage home court advantage, where they are 5-4 this season compared to a 1-7 road record. Montana is 1-9 in away games.

Defensive execution will be critical. Montana’s Avery Waddington, who posted 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in Monday’s win, provides versatile play. Weber State will counter with contributors like Antoniette Emma-Nnopu, who had 9 points and 7 rebounds against Idaho.

Thursday’s game is the first of two meetings between the programs this season. They are scheduled to play again in Missoula on Feb. 21.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST at the Dee Events Center.
