Preview: Alabama A&M Bulldogs at Prairie View Lady Panthers

HEMPSTEAD, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Alabama A&M women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak against a struggling Prairie View squad when the Bulldogs visit the Lady Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup at the William Nicks Building.

The Bulldogs (8-9, 4-1 SWAC) enter on a four-game conference winning streak, most recently defeating rival Alabama State 50-41 on Monday. Forward Jaida Belton has been a key contributor during the run, averaging 9.4 points per game in SWAC play. She posted a dominant 13-point, 17-rebound performance in a win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Jan. 3.

Prairie View (2-15, 0-5) seeks its first conference victory amid a nine-game losing streak. The Lady Panthers fell 62-43 at Jackson State last Saturday. Guard CJ Wilson has been a bright spot, averaging 13.6 points over her last five games and scoring 19 in the loss to Jackson State.

Alabama A&M’s defense has fueled its streak, holding three of its last four SWAC opponents under 50 points. Prairie View has struggled offensively, failing to reach 50 points in three of its five conference games.

The Bulldogs won both meetings last season. Thursday’s contest is the first of a two-game Texas road swing for Alabama A&M, which visits Texas Southern on Saturday. Prairie View hosts Alabama State on Saturday.

Players to Watch: Alabama A&M: F Jaida Belton. The versatile forward is coming off an 11-point, 4-block effort against Alabama State and provides a consistent interior presence. Prairie View: G CJ Wilson. The team’s leading scorer during its recent skid, Wilson will be relied upon to generate offense against a stout Bulldogs defense.

Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST.
