Bethune-Cookman at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Jacksonville Dolphins will look to continue a strong start to their season when they host the struggling Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in a non-conference women’s basketball game Tuesday at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Jacksonville (6-3) enters the contest having won four of its last six, including decisive home victories over Coastal Carolina (68-51) and Florida International (80-69). The Dolphins are coming off a challenging two-game road swing in Texas, where they fell to Texas Christian and Texas Tech. Guard Carmaya Bowman has been a consistent contributor, averaging 7.5 points and 4.3 rebounds over her last four games, including a 10-point, 6-rebound effort against the Red Raiders.

Bethune-Cookman (2-10) seeks to snap a four-game losing streak. The Wildcats’ last win came on Dec. 6 against Division II Livingstone. They are coming off a 64-52 home loss to William & Mary on Dec. 20. Forward Tyler Butler has emerged as a bright spot, scoring 15 points and grabbing seven rebounds in that contest. She has blocked five shots over her last three games.

The Dolphins have shown a potent offense at home, averaging 73 points in their four wins in Jacksonville. Bethune-Cookman has struggled offensively against Division I competition, failing to reach 60 points in eight of its ten losses.

This matchup precedes both teams opening conference play in January. Jacksonville will begin ASUN competition, while Bethune-Cookman turns its focus to the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
