Jacksonville Dolphins Dominate Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in Women’s Basketball

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Jacksonville Dolphins overwhelmed the visiting Bethune-Cookman Wildcats from the opening tip, cruising to a 95-53 victory in a nonconference women’s basketball game Tuesday night at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Dolphins (7-3) established immediate control, opening the game on a 9-0 run and leading 24-12 after the first quarter. They extended their dominance in the second period, outscoring the Wildcats 30-12 to take a commanding 54-24 lead into halftime. Jacksonville’s defensive pressure forced Bethune-Cookman into 15 first-half turnovers, which fueled a potent transition offense and allowed the Dolphins to build an insurmountable advantage.

Jacksonville’s depth and balance were on full display as nine different players scored, led by Priscilla Williams. The Houston native came off the bench to score 14 points in just 18 minutes, adding three assists. Kali Howard provided a strong interior presence with 12 points and two blocks, while Mychal White contributed 13 points. The Dolphins’ ball movement was sharp, resulting in 18 assists on 34 made field goals.

Bethune-Cookman (2-11), which has lost four straight, struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm against Jacksonville’s aggressive defense. Keiara Gregory led the Wildcats with 14 points, and Madison Holden added eight. The Wildcats shot just 30.2% from the field and committed 24 turnovers, which Jacksonville converted into 33 points.

The most pivotal stretch of the game occurred late in the first quarter and throughout the entire second. After Bethune-Cookman’s Gregory hit a 3-pointer to cut the early deficit to 9-5, Jacksonville responded with a decisive 15-2 run. The surge was fueled by defensive stops and efficient scoring from multiple sources, including a layup and free throw from Tatum Brown, a driving layup from Mychal White, and a transition layup from Comari Mitchell. This pushed the Dolphins’ lead to 24-9, effectively putting the game out of reach less than 12 minutes after it began.

The second quarter only widened the gap, as Jacksonville’s reserves maintained the intense pressure. The Dolphins shot 52.9% in the first half and held Bethune-Cookman to a mere 24.1%, showcasing the comprehensive nature of their performance.

Jacksonville never allowed the Wildcats to threaten in the second half, maintaining at least a 27-point lead throughout the third quarter and leading by as many as 44 in the final period. The Dolphins dominated points in the paint, 48-22, and scored 21 fast-break points to Bethune-Cookman’s two.

The announced attendance was 97.
