Cal State Northridge at Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho (Interstat) — The Idaho Vandals used a dominant first-quarter run to seize control and never looked back, cruising to an 89-56 victory over the Cal State Northridge Matadors in a non-conference women’s basketball game Sunday at Idaho Central Credit Union Arena.

Idaho’s offense was efficient from the opening tip, establishing a 28-12 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Vandals built their early advantage with relentless work inside, outscoring the Matadors 46-26 in the paint for the game and capitalizing on a 21-9 offensive rebounding edge that led to numerous second-chance opportunities.

The Vandals’ balanced attack was led by Lorena Vitoria Barbosa Anunciacao, who scored 18 points in just 26 minutes of play. Hope Hassmann added 14 points and five rebounds, while Ella Uriarte and Ana Pinheiro each contributed 11 points. Pinheiro filled the stat sheet with five rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Debora Reis Dos Santos provided a significant spark off the bench with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Cal State Northridge struggled to find any offensive rhythm, shooting just 31.9 percent from the floor and a frigid 24.2 percent from beyond the arc. The Matadors were led by Rita Nazario, who scored 11 points. Jite Gbemuotor came off the bench to provide a bright spot with seven points and four rebounds in only eight minutes of action.

Idaho’s defense was equally impactful, forcing 14 turnovers and converting them into 18 points. The Vandals also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Matadors decisively to limit Northridge’s possessions.

With the win, Idaho improved its season record to 5-1, continuing a strong start to the campaign. The Vandals have now won five of their last six games. Cal State Northridge fell to 2-3 with the loss, having dropped two consecutive contests.

The game was part of a multi-team event. Idaho returns to action on Friday against Colgate in Irvine, California, while Cal State Northridge will host LIFE Pacific on Wednesday.
