Louisiana-Monroe at Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (Interstat) — The undefeated Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will put their perfect record on the line against the Sam Houston Bearkats in a nonconference women’s basketball game Thursday at Johnson Coliseum.

Louisiana-Monroe (4-0) is off to its best start in recent years, coming off a 79-50 rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday. Guard Jazmine Jackson led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds in that victory, part of a Warhawks offense that has averaged 75.8 points per game this season.

Sam Houston (3-1) has also found early success, rebounding from its lone loss to TCU with a 77-49 win over Prairie View on Monday. The Bearkats’ offense was fueled by Fanta Kone and Annika Corcoran, who each scored 16 points, while Aysia Ward-Strong recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The matchup pits Louisiana-Monroe’s high-scoring attack against a stout Sam Houston defense that has held its last two opponents under 50 points. The game is the first of a challenging road stretch for the Warhawks, who will face Clemson, Mississippi State and Alabama in the following weeks. Sam Houston will host North American on Tuesday before a road test at Rice.
