SHELBY, N.C. (Interstat) — The Hampton Pirates and Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs, both seeking momentum, will meet in a non-conference women’s basketball game Sunday at Paul Porter Arena.

Hampton (1-1) enters the matchup looking to bounce back from a 77-48 road loss to Wake Forest on Nov. 9. In that contest, Kiarra McElrath and Taylor Gibson each scored 12 points, while Aaryn Battle dished out seven assists. The Pirates opened their season with a dominant 105-21 victory over Apprentice.

Gardner-Webb (0-4) is still in search of its first win after a challenging early schedule. The Runnin’ Bulldogs are coming off an 87-51 defeat at Virginia Tech on Thursday. Amira Ofunniyin nearly recorded a double-double in the loss, pulling down 10 rebounds to go with seven points. All four of Gardner-Webb’s losses have come on the road.

This game, organized by the Big South, offers both teams an opportunity to reset before continuing their respective slates. Hampton will visit Norfolk State on Nov. 21, while Gardner-Webb will host UNC Wilmington on Nov. 19.
