Indiana at Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — In a back-and-forth battle Sunday, the Indiana Hoosiers remained undefeated, outlasting the Florida State Seminoles 76-72 in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Donald L. Tucker Center.
The Hoosiers improved to 4-0, while the Seminoles fell to 3-2.
Indiana’s offense was powered by a dominant backcourt performance. Lenée Beaumont, a 6-foot-1 guard from Lisle, Illinois, led all scorers with 23 points, adding five rebounds in 36 minutes. Her backcourt partner, Shay Ciezki of Buffalo, New York, was equally formidable, pouring in 22 points and dishing out three assists while also playing the full 36 minutes.
The game’s interior was controlled by Indiana’s Zania Socka-Nguemen, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Florida State was led by Sydney Bowles, who scored 19 points and had four assists. Jasmine Shavers added 16 points and six rebounds for the Seminoles, while 6-foot-6 center Pania Davis from Perth, Australia, contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.
The contest featured significant momentum swings. Indiana established an early lead, ending the first quarter up 17-12. Florida State fought back in the second period, outscoring the Hoosiers 17-15 to narrow the gap to 32-29 at halftime.
The third quarter belonged to the Seminoles, who erupted for 27 points. A strong offensive frame, highlighted by drives to the basket and second-chance opportunities, gave Florida State a 56-50 lead heading into the final period.
Undeterred, Indiana saved its best for last. The Hoosiers mounted a decisive 26-point fourth quarter, spearheaded by the scoring of Beaumont and Ciezki. Indiana’s defense also tightened, holding Florida State to just 16 points in the final frame to secure the comeback victory on the road.
The Seminoles held a slight edge in points in the paint, 40-36, and points off turnovers, 15-13, but it was not enough to overcome Indiana’s late-game execution.
Attendance was 2,104 at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
Indiana’s next game is at home against Butler on Wednesday. Florida State travels to face in-state rival Florida on Thursday.
