Indiana Holds Off Florida State for Road Victory

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — In a back-and-forth battle that required a fourth-quarter comeback, the Indiana Hoosiers remained undefeated Sunday by edging the Florida State Seminoles 76-72 in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game at Donald L. Tucker Center.

A crowd of 2,104 watched as Indiana improved to 4-0 on the young season, while Florida State fell to 3-2.

The game was a tale of contrasting halves and shifting momentum. Indiana established an early lead, outscoring Florida State 17-12 in the opening quarter and taking a 32-29 advantage into halftime. The third quarter, however, belonged entirely to the Seminoles, who erupted for 27 points. A dominant performance in the paint and a series of aggressive drives allowed Florida State to seize control, outscoring Indiana by nine in the period to carry a 56-50 lead into the final frame.

Facing a six-point deficit, the Hoosiers mounted their response in the fourth quarter, unleashing a 26-point offensive outburst. The backcourt duo of Lenée Beaumont and Shay Ciezki proved instrumental in the comeback. Indiana’s defense also tightened, limiting Florida State to just 16 points in the final period after the Seminoles’ prolific third.

Beaumont, a 6-foot-1 guard from Lisle, Illinois, delivered a game-high 23 points, adding five rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Her backcourt partner, Shay Ciezki, a 5-7 guard from Buffalo, New York, was equally critical, scoring 22 points and dishing out three assists while also playing the full 36 minutes.

The interior battle was anchored by Indiana’s Zania Socka-Nguemen, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, providing a crucial presence on both ends of the floor.

Florida State’s effort was led by Sydney Bowles, who scored 19 points and contributed four assists. Jasmine Shavers added 16 points and six rebounds for the Seminoles, while 6-foot-6 center Pania Davis from Perth, Australia, chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

Statistically, the game was remarkably even. Florida State held a slight edge in points in the paint, 40-36, and points off turnovers, 15-13. Indiana’s ability to execute down the stretch, particularly from the perimeter and the free-throw line in the final quarter, ultimately made the difference.

The victory extends Indiana’s strong start to the season, which includes prior wins over Marshall, Illinois-Chicago and Lipscomb. Florida State, coming off a win against Nicholls State and a loss to Connecticut, will look to rebound in its next contest.

Indiana’s next game is at home against Butler on Wednesday, Nov. 19. Florida State travels to face in-state rival Florida on Thursday, Nov. 20.
