Milwaukee at Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (Interstat) — The Wisconsin women’s basketball team used a dominant defensive performance to overwhelm in-state foe Milwaukee, securing a 75-46 victory Monday night at Kohl Center.
The Badgers established control early, opening the game on a 14-3 run and never looking back. A stifling full-court press and aggressive half-court defense forced the Panthers into a season-high 24 turnovers, which Wisconsin converted into 32 points. The Badgers also tallied 16 steals and eight blocked shots, consistently disrupting Milwaukee’s offensive flow.
Milwaukee struggled to find any offensive rhythm, shooting just 29.6 percent from the floor. While the Panthers connected on seven three-pointers, they managed only eight points in the paint and were outscored 34-8 in that category by the bigger, more physical Badgers.
Wisconsin’s offense was efficient and balanced, with 10 different players scoring. The team shot 45 percent from the field and an impressive 93.3 percent from the free-throw line, making 14 of 15 attempts. The Badgers also shared the ball effectively, dishing out 16 assists on their 27 made field goals.
Breauna Ware led all scorers with 13 points for Wisconsin, while Jovana Spasovski added 11. Gift Uchenna was a force inside, just missing a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds in only 17 minutes of action. She also contributed two blocks and two steals. Destiny Howell and Ronnie Porter each chipped in nine points.
For Milwaukee, Jada Williams was the lone bright spot, finishing with a team-high eight points. The Panthers’ offense was hampered by the lack of ball movement, registering only three assists for the entire game.
The win improves Wisconsin’s record to 2-1 on the young season, while Milwaukee falls to 1-2. The Badgers will look to build on this performance when they host Bowling Green on Tuesday. The Panthers return home to face Western Michigan on Thursday.
