Alcorn State at Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Interstat) — The Alabama women’s basketball team delivered a commanding performance Monday night, overwhelming the Alcorn State Lady Braves 92-39 at Coleman Coliseum.
The Crimson Tide improved to 3-0 on the young season, while the Lady Braves fell to 0-2.
Alabama seized control from the opening tip, racing out to a 24-8 lead after the first quarter. The offensive onslaught was fueled by efficient shooting and a relentless defense that forced Alcorn State into 23 turnovers. The Crimson Tide converted those miscues into 27 points.
While the second quarter saw a slight offensive lull for Alabama, they exploded again after halftime, outscoring Alcorn State 31-8 in the third quarter to put the game completely out of reach. The final quarter saw the Crimson Tide add another 25 points to their total.
The statistical disparity was stark. Alabama shot 55.9 percent from the floor and connected on 11 of 22 three-point attempts. They also dished out 15 assists and recorded 15 steals as a team. In contrast, Alcorn State managed to make just 13 of its 48 field goal attempts, a 27.1 percent clip, and committed more than three times as many turnovers as assists.
Alabama’s offense was a balanced and efficient machine. Essence Cody, a 6-foot-4 forward from Valdosta, Georgia, led all scorers with 17 points and added five rebounds. Ace Austin, a 5-7 guard from Spring Garden, Alabama, contributed 16 points and five rebounds, while Jessica Timmons of Charlotte, North Carolina, filled the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
