Broncos Edge Commanders in Overtime Thriller
LANDOVER, Md. (Interstat) — In a game defined by resilience and a dramatic final stand, the Denver Broncos escaped FedEx Field with a 27-26 overtime victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, further solidifying their status as a contender in the AFC.
The Broncos, now 10-2, needed every second of the extra period to subdue a Washington team that fought back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime, only to see a potential game-winning two-point conversion fall incomplete in the final moments.
Denver quarterback Bo Nix orchestrated a precise and efficient attack, completing 29 of 45 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown. His performance was pivotal, especially in overtime, where he led a 75-yard drive culminating in a 5-yard touchdown run by RJ Harvey. Wil Lutz’s extra point gave Denver a 27-20 lead.
Washington, which fell to 3-9, answered with a desperate drive of its own. Quarterback Marcus Mariota, who threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns while adding 55 yards on the ground, connected with Terry McLaurin for a 3-yard touchdown with 2:47 left in overtime. McLaurin finished with 7 catches for 96 yards and the score, while tight end Zach Ertz was a frequent target, hauling in 10 passes for 106 yards.
Facing a one-point deficit, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera opted to go for the win. Mariota’s pass on the two-point conversion attempt, intended for running back Jeremy McNichols in the flat, was broken up in the end zone, sealing the victory for Denver.
The game began as a defensive struggle. Denver took a 3-0 lead on a 33-yard Lutz field goal on its opening drive. The Broncos extended the lead to 13-0 in the second quarter with another Lutz field goal and a 2-yard touchdown pass from Nix to Courtland Sutton just 23 seconds before halftime.
Washington found its footing before the break, with Chris Rodriguez Jr. plunging in from 8 yards out to cut the deficit to 13-7. The Commanders then drew even at 13-13 in the third quarter on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Mariota to Treylon Burks.
Denver responded immediately, reclaiming a 20-13 lead on a 1-yard Harvey touchdown run. Washington’s Jake Moody and Denver’s defense then controlled the fourth quarter. Moody hit field goals from 38 and 32 yards, the latter as time expired in regulation after a frantic Washington drive, to knot the game at 20-20 and send it to overtime.
The Broncos’ defense, while yielding yards, made critical plays. Safety Talanoa Hufanga recorded a game-high 13 tackles, and linebacker Dre Greenlaw had a key first-half interception. Brandon Jones’ interception in overtime set up Denver’s winning drive.
Washington’s defense was led by linebacker Bobby Wagner’s 8 tackles and an interception, while the secondary, including safeties Quan Martin and Jeremy Reaves and cornerback Mike Sainristil, each had 7 tackles.
The game defied pregame projections, as Washington was installed as a 6-point favorite. The combined score of 53 points also went over the posted total of 43.5.
Denver will look to continue its winning ways next Sunday, Dec. 7, on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders. Washington will travel to face the Minnesota Vikings the same day.
