Carolina at Atlanta
ATLANTA (Interstat) — The Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons, NFC South rivals heading in opposite directions, will meet Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a rematch of a lopsided September contest.
The Panthers (5-5) enter the game at .500 after a 17-7 home loss to New Orleans last Sunday. Quarterback Bryce Young was held to 124 passing yards but added two rushing touchdowns in the defeat. Carolina’s defense, led by linebacker Claudin Cherelus, has been a strength, holding three of its last five opponents to 17 points or fewer.
Conversely, the Falcons (3-6) are looking to rebound from a 31-25 overtime loss at Indianapolis. Rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 177 yards and a touchdown in the narrow defeat. Atlanta’s season has been marked by inconsistency, with a notable 24-14 win over Buffalo in October followed by a three-game losing streak.
The teams’ previous meeting this season was a 30-0 Panthers victory in Charlotte on Sept. 21. Despite that result and Carolina’s better record, the Panthers are a 3.5-point underdog according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The over/under is 41.5. A projection from Interstat forecasts a 31-24 Falcons win.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. EST Sunday.
