N.Y. Giants at Chicago

CHICAGO (Interstat) — Caleb Williams threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Rome Odunze and then scrambled for a 17-yard score with 1:47 remaining, capping a stunning fourth-quarter comeback to lift the Chicago Bears to a 24-20 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday at Soldier Field.

The Bears, trailing 20-10 entering the final period, scored 14 unanswered points to snatch the win in front of 58,884 fans. The victory improved Chicago’s record to 6-3, while the Giants fell to 2-8 with their fifth loss in six games.

Williams, the quarterback from Washington, D.C., engineered the comeback, finishing with 220 yards passing and one touchdown through the air while adding 63 yards and the game-winning score on the ground. His favorite target was Odunze, who hauled in six catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Colston Loveland added four receptions for 55 yards.

The Giants, who entered the game as 4.5-point underdogs, controlled the contest for three quarters behind a strong performance from rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. The Kaysville, Utah, native completed 19 of 29 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns, while also leading the team with 66 rushing yards, including a 24-yard scoring run in the third quarter that gave New York a 20-7 lead.

New York struck first in the second quarter with a methodical drive capped by Dart’s 3-yard touchdown run. They added to their lead just before halftime with a 32-yard field goal from Younghoe Koo, taking a 10-7 advantage into the break.

After Dart’s long touchdown run extended the lead to 13 points, the Bears began to chip away. Cairo Santos connected on a 22-yard field goal late in the third quarter to make it 20-10.

The Giants appeared poised to put the game away early in the fourth, driving deep into Chicago territory. However, the drive stalled, and Koo’s 19-yard field goal pushed the lead to 20-10 but left the door open for the Bears.

Chicago’s defense, led by safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson who recorded nine tackles and two sacks, then forced a pair of critical three-and-outs, setting the stage for Williams’ heroics.

The comeback began with a 75-yard drive that Williams finished with his short touchdown toss to Odunze, cutting the deficit to 20-17. After another quick stop by the Bears’ defense, Williams took over at his own 47-yard line with 2:53 remaining. He needed just over a minute, culminating in his 17-yard scramble through the Giants’ defense for the go-ahead score.

The Giants turned to veteran Russell Wilson for their final possession, but the Chicago pass rush, which sacked Giants quarterbacks five times, closed out the game. Wilson was sacked twice on the final drive, and his fourth-down pass fell incomplete to seal the Bears’ victory.

For the Giants, Darius Slayton caught four passes for 89 yards, while tight end Theo Johnson had seven receptions for 75 yards. The loss extends a difficult season for New York, which has now lost three straight games.

The Bears will look to continue their winning ways next Sunday when they travel to face the Minnesota Vikings. The Giants return home to host the Green Bay Packers.
