Chiefs Dominate Raiders in Shutout Victory
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — The Kansas City Chiefs delivered a dominant and complete performance Sunday, overwhelming the Las Vegas Raiders 31-0 before a crowd of 73,584 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Patrick Mahomes orchestrated the offense with precision, while a stifling Chiefs defense smothered the Raiders from start to finish, handing Las Vegas its most lopsided defeat of the season.
Mahomes, the star quarterback from Whitehouse, Texas, was nearly flawless, completing 26 of 35 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 28 yards on the ground with his legs. His favorite target was Rashee Rice, who hauled in seven catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns.
The Chiefs set the tone early, marching 65 yards on their opening possession. The drive was capped by a 2-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Rice, giving Kansas City a 7-0 lead with 5:58 remaining in the first quarter. The score was set up by a 44-yard deep connection from Mahomes to tight end Travis Kelce.
Kansas City extended its lead in the second quarter. After another sustained drive, Mahomes found Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on an 8-yard scoring strike, pushing the advantage to 14-0.
Just before halftime, the Chiefs put together a masterful two-minute drill. Mahomes efficiently moved the offense downfield, culminating in a 3-yard touchdown pass to Rice with just 10 seconds left in the half. The score gave Kansas City a commanding 21-0 lead at the break and effectively put the game out of reach.
The Chiefs’ offensive onslaught continued after halftime. Isiah Pacheco plunged into the end zone from 7 yards out to cap the opening drive of the third quarter, making it 28-0. Harrison Butker added a 38-yard field goal later in the period to round out the scoring at 31-0.
Defensively, the Chiefs were impenetrable. They held the Raiders to just 137 total yards and recorded three sacks. The unit, led by linebacker Nick Bolton and a host of contributors including Trent McDuffie and Chris Jones, never allowed Las Vegas to cross midfield with any serious scoring threat. Jones, the standout defensive tackle, recorded one of the team’s sacks.
Las Vegas quarterback Geno Smith, from Miami, Florida, was under constant pressure and managed only 67 yards passing on 10-of-16 attempts. The Raiders’ ground game was equally ineffective, managing just 28 yards total. Running back Ashton Jeanty was a rare bright spot, gaining 21 yards on six carries and catching one pass for 13 yards.
The Raiders’ defense was on the field for much of the game, leading to high tackle numbers for linebackers Elandon Roberts and Devin White, who recorded 18 and 16 tackles, respectively.
With the victory, the Chiefs evened their season record at 4-3, while the Raiders fell to 2-5. The loss marks the third time this season Las Vegas has been held to single digits in scoring.
Kansas City looks to build on this momentum when they host the Washington Commanders next Monday afternoon. The Raiders, seeking to rebound from the shutout, will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Nov. 2.
The final score of 31-0 defied pregame projections. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Kansas City 32, Las Vegas 22, while its ELO system gave the Chiefs a 97 percent probability to win. The combined score of 31 points went under the over/under line of 45.5, despite Las Vegas having been installed as a pregame underdog with a spread of +11.5.
