Cincinnati at Denver
DENVER (Interstat) — The Denver Broncos dominated the Cincinnati Bengals in a 28-3 victory on Monday night at a sold-out Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, using a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defense to even their record at 2-2.
Quarterback Bo Nix orchestrated the Denver offense with precision, completing 29 of 42 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns, while also scrambling for another score. His performance was complemented by a strong ground game led by J.K. Dobbins, who rushed for 101 yards on 16 carries.
The Bengals, who also moved to 2-2, managed only a first-quarter field goal and were held to 125 passing yards by a relentless Broncos defense.
Cincinnati opened the game with a promising 14-play, 62-yard drive that consumed nearly six minutes, but it stalled at the Denver 8-yard line, forcing a 26-yard Evan McPherson field goal for an early 3-0 lead.
Denver responded emphatically. The Broncos answered with a 10-play, 75-yard drive of their own, capped by a 6-yard touchdown scramble by Nix with 17 seconds remaining in the opening quarter to take a 7-3 lead.
The second quarter belonged entirely to the Broncos. They extended their lead midway through the period when receiver Marvin Mims Jr. took an end-around 16 yards for a touchdown, making it 14-3.
Just before halftime, Denver delivered a decisive blow. After a Cincinnati punt, Nix engineered a rapid 84-yard scoring drive in just 43 seconds. He completed six passes on the drive, culminating in a 20-yard touchdown strike to Courtland Sutton with eight seconds left on the clock, sending the Broncos into the break with a commanding 21-3 advantage.
The Bengals’ offense, led by quarterback Jake Browning, could not muster a response after the initial drive. Browning finished 14 of 25 for 125 yards and was sacked three times. The Denver defense, led by linebacker Alex Singleton’s 11 tackles, consistently pressured Browning and limited Cincinnati’s playmakers.
Denver put the game completely out of reach in the fourth quarter. Nix led the Broncos on a 12-play, 83-yard drive that chewed over seven minutes off the clock, finishing with a 12-yard touchdown pass to running back RJ Harvey to seal the 28-3 final.
Harvey finished with 58 rushing yards, 40 receiving yards and the late touchdown. Mims caught six passes for 69 yards and added his rushing score, while Sutton led all receivers with 81 yards and a touchdown on five catches.
For Cincinnati, Chase Brown was a bright spot, rushing for 40 yards and adding 31 receiving yards. Defensively, linebackers Demetrius Knight Jr. and Geno Stone each recorded 10 tackles, with Knight adding an interception in the end zone to thwart a Denver scoring opportunity in the second quarter.
The announced attendance was 75,673. The Bengals will host the Detroit Lions next Sunday, while the Broncos travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles.
