San Antonio vs. Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The San Antonio Spurs will try to reclaim home-court advantage Sunday when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4 of their Western Conference playoff series at Moda Center.

The top-seeded Spurs carry a 63-22 regular-season record into the matchup, but trail the series 2-1 after a 106-103 loss in San Antonio on Tuesday. Portland, the seed at 44-41, evened the series by bouncing back from a 111-98 defeat in Game 2.

San Antonio guard Devin Vassell has been a consistent force in the postseason. In Game 3, he logged 34 minutes, posting 16 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and one block. The double-double extended a strong stretch for Vassell, who recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds against the Los Angeles Clippers on April 2 and has scored in double figures in six of his past nine games. His ability to crash the glass from the guard position will be critical for the Spurs, who will look to slow a Trail Blazers offense that erupted for 70 points in a Game 3 victory on Friday, April 24.

Portland counters with guard Scoot Henderson, who has emerged as a playoff star. Henderson erupted for 31 points on 38 minutes in Game 3, adding one rebound and one block. The performance continued a strong series; he scored 18 points in Game 2 and 20 points against the Spurs on April 8. Over his past 10 games, Henderson has averaged 17.0 points while shooting efficiently from the floor. His backcourt matchup with Vassell will be a key subplot as the series shifts back to Portland.

The Trail Blazers controlled Game 3 defensively, limiting the Spurs to 59 points in a 70-point victory on Friday. San Antonio’s Stephon Castle (18 points, eight rebounds, five assists) and Luke Kornet (10 points, nine rebounds) were productive in the loss.

A predictive model projects a high-scoring affair, with Portland prevailing 121-117.

The winner of Sunday’s game will seize a critical edge in the best-of-seven series. Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday in San Antonio.
