Anunoby’s 28 Points Lead Knicks Past Spurs in High-Scoring Showdown

NEW YORK (Interstat) — In a high-stakes clash between two of the NBA’s hottest teams, the New York Knicks used a dominant fourth-quarter surge to overcome the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

A sellout crowd of 18,609 watched the Knicks, now 19-7, erase a five-point deficit entering the final period by outscoring the Spurs 35-19 over the last 12 minutes. The victory snapped San Antonio’s three-game winning streak and dropped the Spurs to 18-8.

The game’s defining stretch came early in the fourth quarter, transforming a tight contest into a comfortable New York lead. With the Knicks clinging to a 91-89 edge, they unleashed a game-breaking 16-2 run over a three-minute span. The burst was fueled by relentless offensive rebounding and timely three-point shooting. Mitchell Robinson, who finished with 15 rebounds, was instrumental, grabbing multiple offensive boards during the sequence. His efforts led directly to two three-pointers by Jordan Clarkson and a critical triple from OG Anunoby, pushing the lead to 107-91 and forcing a San Antonio timeout with 10:27 remaining. The Spurs, who had led for much of the first three quarters, never recovered from the blitz.

Anunoby was the offensive catalyst for New York, scoring a game-high 28 points on efficient shooting, adding nine rebounds and three assists. His performance continued a stellar stretch for the forward, who has now scored at least 21 points in four of his last five games. Jalen Brunson orchestrated the offense with 25 points and eight assists, while Karl-Anthony Towns posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Knicks’ depth was on full display as Tyler Kolek contributed 14 points and five assists off the bench, and Josh Hart added 11 points and eight rebounds.

San Antonio was led by its backcourt of the future. Rookie Stephon Castle filled the stat sheet with 15 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds, demonstrating impressive poise. Fellow guard Dylan Harper provided a scoring punch with 21 points. Victor Wembanyama added 18 points and six rebounds for the Spurs, but was limited to 25 minutes of action.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair featuring 15 lead changes. San Antonio’s offense was crisp, shooting over 50% from the field in the first two quarters to take a 61-59 lead into halftime. They extended that lead to 94-89 by the end of a high-scoring third quarter, setting the stage for New York’s decisive final push.

The Knicks’ defense tightened significantly in the fourth, holding the Spurs to just 19 points on 29% shooting from the field while forcing five turnovers. New York also dominated the glass in the period, securing six offensive rebounds that led to 11 second-chance points.

The win improved New York’s record at Madison Square Garden to 12-2 this season. According to Interstat’s ELO system, New York had a 60.1% probability to win pregame and covered the spread as a 2.5-point favorite. The total score of 237 points went under the betting over/under of 227.5.

Both teams face quick turnarounds. The Spurs continue a tough road trip with a game in Atlanta on Friday. The Knicks, meanwhile, head to Indiana to face the Pacers on Thursday, beginning a stretch where they will play seven of their next nine games on the road. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch in San Antonio on New Year’s Eve.
