Cavaliers Overpower Grizzlies in High-Scoring Offensive Showcase
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — In a game defined by a staggering offensive explosion, the Cleveland Cavaliers outgunned the Memphis Grizzlies 142-126 on Monday night at FedExForum, riding a historic second-quarter surge to their third consecutive victory.
The contest, which saw a combined 268 points, was effectively decided during a breathtaking 12-minute stretch before halftime. After trailing 36-24 following a first quarter dominated by Memphis’s perimeter shooting, the Cavaliers erupted for 44 points in the second period. That outburst flipped a 12-point deficit into a 68-64 Cleveland lead at the intermission and established a pace the Grizzlies could not match.
The Cavaliers’ offensive efficiency was historic. They scored 142 points on 104 possessions, an offensive rating of 135.2, by relentlessly attacking the paint and capitalizing on Memphis’s foul trouble. Cleveland attempted 37 free throws, making 26, while Memphis shot just 10 free throws all night. The Grizzlies committed 27 personal fouls to Cleveland’s 11, a disparity that disrupted their rotation and defensive aggression.
Dennis Schroder, Cleveland’s top star, orchestrated the onslaught with precision. The guard from Braunschweig, Germany, tallied 22 points and 11 assists, directing an offense that saw six players score in double figures. His playmaking was the engine, particularly during the pivotal second-quarter run where he consistently broke down the defense.
Evan Mobley provided a dominant interior presence, scoring 24 points on efficient shooting. Center Jarrett Allen added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Keon Ellis contributed 19 points and eight assists. The Cavaliers’ depth was on full display, with Craig Porter just missing a triple-double (11 points, nine rebounds, six assists) and Nae’Qwan Tomlin adding 10 points and nine rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Grizzlies, who fell to 25-54, showcased a potent, if one-dimensional, attack. They launched 59 three-pointers, making 29, good for a 49.2% clip from deep. Olivier-Maxence Prosper led all scorers with 24 points off the bench, all of which came in the second half. Adama Bal scored 20 and Lucas Williamson added 17 for Memphis, which has lost three of its last four.
The game’s most important sequence came late in the second quarter as Cleveland cemented its momentum. With the Cavaliers having already erased the large early deficit, they closed the half on a 7-0 run in the final 30 seconds. It was capped by Keon Ellis drilling a 22-foot three-pointer off an Evan Mobley assist with just half a second remaining, sending Cleveland into the locker room with a four-point lead and all the momentum.
The Cavaliers never relented after halftime. They poured in 33 points in the third quarter and another 41 in the fourth, their lead ballooning as high as 20 points. Memphis continued to fire from deep, but could not string together enough stops to mount a serious comeback, as Cleveland shot 58.6% from the field overall.
The win improved Cleveland to 50-29, securing a 50-win season and keeping them in the hunt for playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers have now won seven of their last eight games. Memphis, long eliminated from postseason contention, continued a difficult season but demonstrated a persistent offensive identity built around the three-point shot.
A crowd of 16,511 at FedExForum witnessed the offensive spectacle, which comfortably surpassed the pregame over/under line of 238.5. Cleveland, which was a 13.5-point pregame favorite according to sportsbooks, covered the spread with ease. The Interstat ELO system had given the Cavaliers an 88.2% probability to win.
Cleveland continues its road trip against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Memphis begins a three-game road swing in Denver against the Nuggets, also on Wednesday.
