Blue Jays Slug Way to 2‑0 ALDS Lead Behind Yesavage’s Gem
TORONTO (Interstat) — Rookie Trey Yesavage set a Blue Jays postseason record with 11 strikeouts over 5 1/3 no-hit innings, and Toronto’s offense exploded again to beat the New York Yankees 13-7 on Sunday evening, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five ALDS.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit the first postseason grand slam in franchise history during a six-run fourth inning. Daulton Varsho homered twice as part of a four-hit afternoon, and Ernie Clement and George Springer also went deep for the Blue Jays, who racked up 15 hits before a crowd of 44,764 at Rogers Centre.
The Yankees scored five runs in the seventh, highlighted by a Cody Bellinger two-run homer, but could not overcome the large deficit. Toronto has outscored New York 23-8 through the first two games of the series.
