Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners, losers in 10 of their last 12, open a three-game interleague series against the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Seattle enters the 7:10 p.m. PDT contest with a 52-55 record, 15 games back in the American League West. Los Angeles, at 67-39, holds a 6½-game division lead over the San Diego Padres.

Right-hander Emmet Sheehan (0-0, 3.60 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Dodgers. In his most recent outing Sunday at the New York Mets, Sheehan allowed one run on three hits over five innings, striking out five, in a 8-3 loss. Over his last four starts, he has a 4.50 ERA, surrendering nine earned runs across 20 innings.

The Mariners are expected to counter with a bullpen game. Reliever Cole Wilcox, who has pitched in four of Seattle’s last seven games, will be a key arm. In Monday’s 7-3 loss at Texas, Wilcox worked a scoreless inning, allowing one hit with one strikeout. Over his last seven appearances, he has not allowed a run in 8¹/₃ innings, scattering three hits with eight strikeouts.

Los Angeles, coming off a split of a four-game series at Citi Field, took two of three at Philadelphia before that. The Dodgers have won seven of their last 10 overall.

Seattle dropped three of four in Texas, with the lone win a 6-4 victory Sunday. The Mariners have lost seven of their last 10 series.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 Dodgers victory.

First baseman Freddie Freeman, the Dodgers’ most productive player in the loss to the Mets, went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Los Angeles’ offense ranks second in the NL in runs per game.

Following Tuesday’s opener, the teams play Wednesday and Thursday afternoon before the Mariners return home to host Minnesota. The Dodgers host Boston for a weekend series after the Seattle set.
