Los Angeles Angels at San Francisco Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Angels visit the San Francisco Giants on Saturday evening at Oracle Park in a matchup of two last-place teams. First pitch is scheduled under clear skies with temperatures at 73 degrees.

The Angels (41-62) send left-hander Reid Detmers to the mound. The Giants (42-60) counter with right-hander Landen Roupp.

Detmers is looking to arrest a personal losing streak. In his last five starts, he has received a no-decision or a loss each time, despite turning in two quality outings. On July 22 against St. Louis, he allowed one earned run over 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts but took the loss. Five days earlier, he fired six scoreless innings against Detroit with seven strikeouts but again was saddled with a loss due to a lack of run support.

Roupp has been San Francisco’s most consistent starter of late. Over his past three outings, he has allowed just three earned runs across 21 innings, striking out 14. His best performance came July 17 at Seattle, when he pitched seven shutout innings in a 7-0 victory. On July 22 at Kansas City, he allowed two earned runs over six innings with seven strikeouts but took the loss.

The teams played to a scoreless tie Friday afternoon in the series opener. The Angels have lost four of their last five games, while the Giants have dropped six straight.

Despite San Francisco’s home-field advantage and recent pitching edge, oddsmakers have installed the Angels as -1.5 favorites. The over/under is set at 8.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Giants victory.

Both clubs are looking to gain traction in the standings and build momentum heading into the second half. The game is the second of a three-game series, with the finale scheduled for Sunday.
