Alvarez’s Grand Slam Powers Astros Past Twins 6‑4
HOUSTON (Interstat) — Yordan Alvarez hit a go-ahead grand slam in a six-run fourth inning to lift the Houston Astros to a 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday at Daikin Park.
Minnesota jumped ahead 4-0 in the first. Ryan Kreidler singled in two runs and an error by Alvarez allowed another run to score. But Alvarez atoned in the fourth, launching his 26th homer after the Astros had already pushed across two runs on a Yainer Diaz single and a Jose Altuve walk.
The Twins added a run in the fifth on Josh Bell’s RBI double, but Houston’s bullpen shut them down. Mike Burrows earned the win, allowing four runs on six hits over five innings with three strikeouts. Josh Hader collected his eighth save with a perfect ninth, striking out two.
Joe Ryan took the loss for Minnesota, which fell to 41-46. Houston improved to 43-45. Attendance was 26,848. The game lasted 2:32.
