Minnesota Twins at Houston Astros

HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Minnesota Twins and Houston Astros continue their three-game series Tuesday night at Daikin Park, with both teams looking to climb above .500 in a tight American League race.

Minnesota (40-45) enters the game after a 3-2 win Sunday over the Colorado Rockies. The Twins, who dropped the series opener to Houston in a low-scoring affair Monday, will send left-hander Connor Prielipp to the mound. Prielipp (2-3) earned the win in that Sunday outing, tossing six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and striking out 10. The 24-year-old has been consistent recently, working at least six innings in four of his past five starts, though he has allowed four earned runs in two of those outings.

Houston (42-44) took the series opener Monday and enters Tuesday following a 7-5, 10-inning win Sunday at Detroit. The Astros counter with right-hander Hunter Brown (2-1), who earned the win Sunday with six innings of two-run ball, scattering five hits and striking out four. Brown has been effective when healthy, though he lasted just three innings in a loss at Toronto on June 22. He has allowed one earned run or fewer in two of his past three starts.

The Astros have won three of the past four meetings between the clubs, including a series in Minneapolis in May. Prielipp and Brown have never faced the opposing lineup.

The pitching matchup favors Houston, according to the Interstat game simulator, which projects a 6-5 Astros victory. Both teams are desperate for consistency. Minnesota sits in fourth place in the AL Central, 6.5 games behind Cleveland. Houston is third in the AL West, 5 games back of Seattle.

Following Tuesday’s game, the series concludes Wednesday afternoon. The Twins then travel to New York for a weekend set against the Yankees. The Astros return home to host Tampa Bay for four games before a seven-game road trip to Washington and Texas.
