Baltimore Orioles at Los Angeles Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Baltimore Orioles aim to halt a three-game skid Friday night when they open a three-game interleague series against the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

Baltimore (35-41) arrives on the West Coast after a 3-0 loss to Seattle on Thursday, in which right-hander Shane Baz (2-3) took the loss despite a quality start. The Orioles have dropped five of their last six games.

Los Angeles (48-27) has won three straight following a 5-4 victory over Tampa Bay on Wednesday. The Dodgers have the best record in the majors.

Baz is scheduled to start for Baltimore. In his last outing Thursday at Seattle, he allowed three earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts over seven innings. Over his previous five starts, Baz has posted a 3.06 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings.

The Dodgers are expected to counter with two-way star Shohei Ohtani, who has been used both on the mound and in the lineup. In his most recent start Wednesday against Tampa Bay, Ohtani allowed four earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision. At the plate over his last five games, Ohtani is 4-for-16 with two home runs and four RBIs.

Baltimore’s offense has struggled, averaging 2.4 runs over the last five games. Second baseman Jackson Holliday went 1-for-3 in Thursday’s loss.

Los Angeles first baseman Freddie Freeman drove in two runs Wednesday on a home run.

The Dodgers have been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus-1.5. The over/under is 9.5 runs.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Dodgers victory.

Following the series opener, the teams meet again Saturday and Sunday before Baltimore travels to face the Los Angeles Angels and the Dodgers head to Minnesota.
