New York Yankees at Cleveland Guardians

CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians continue their four-game series Tuesday night at Progressive Field, with the visitors looking to even the set after a tense 4-3 win Monday.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies and 85 degrees.

New York (38-26) sends right-hander Gerrit Cole (1-1) to the mound. Cleveland (37-30) has not announced a probable starter.

The Yankees enter having won three of their last four, including Sunday’s 6-1 victory over Boston in which right-hander Cam Schlittler worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts. Schlittler, a key figure in New York’s rotation, has been sharp of late. Over his past three outings, he has a 2.65 ERA across 18 innings, though he was tagged for four earned runs in a loss at Cleveland on June 2.

Cleveland is coming off a 10-0 shutout loss at Texas on Sunday, a game in which right-hander Will Dion allowed one run on three hits over two innings in relief. Dion has struggled this month, surrendering multiple runs in two of his last three appearances. The Guardians have dropped six of their last nine.

The teams have split the season series so far, with Cleveland taking three of four in New York earlier this month before the Yankees answered Monday. The Guardians outscored the Yankees 18-10 during that four-game set in the Bronx.

Players to watch:

Schlittler, a 25-year-old righty, has shown dominant stuff, striking out nine over 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball May 15 against the Mets. However, the Guardians got to him for four earned runs on five hits across 4 1/3 innings in the June 2 meeting.

Left-handed reliever Will Dion has been inconsistent for Cleveland. He has not recorded a quality appearance since late May and has a 9.00 ERA over his last four outings.

New York’s lineup features Jazz Chisholm Jr., who homered and drove in three runs Sunday, and Trent Grisham, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Yankees victory.

Following Tuesday’s game, the series concludes Wednesday afternoon before both teams hit the road: New York travels to Toronto for a weekend set, while Cleveland hosts Detroit.
