Seattle Mariners at Baltimore Orioles
BALTIMORE (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles continue their three-game series Tuesday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, with the Mariners seeking a second straight victory.
Seattle (34-32) defeated Baltimore 6-2 on Monday. The Mariners are coming off a 5-4 loss Sunday at Detroit, a game in which Luis Castillo allowed one earned run over 5 2/3 innings. Castillo holds a 3-4 record this season. Baltimore (31-35) lost 6-4 at Toronto on Sunday, dropping three of four in that series.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The forecast calls for 75 degrees and cloudy conditions.
Right-hander Logan Gilbert (4-4) is the probable starter for Seattle. Right-hander Trevor Rogers (3-6) is the scheduled starter for Baltimore. Rogers has struggled this season, while Gilbert has been solid for the Mariners’ rotation.
Players to watch: Castillo has been effective in recent outings despite a loss. In his last five starts, he has a 2-2 record, allowing two earned runs or fewer in four of those appearances. Over that span, he has struck out 24 batters in 22 2/3 innings.
Baltimore right-hander Shane Baz has been a bright spot for the Orioles. In his last five starts, Baz is 2-3 with a 2.34 ERA. He threw seven innings of one-run ball against Tampa Bay on May 26 and held Boston to two runs over seven innings on June 2. In his most recent start Sunday at Toronto, Baz allowed one earned run over 5 2/3 innings but took the loss.
Monday’s victory was Seattle’s first at Camden Yards this season. The Mariners have won four of their last six games overall. The Orioles have lost five of their last seven.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Seattle 6, Baltimore 5.
The teams meet again Wednesday and Thursday before Seattle travels to Washington for a weekend series. Baltimore returns home Friday to host San Diego.
